"Banker Man"
(c) Paul Fogarty 2005
My home town ain't no town,
it ain't no home....
banker came and took away
everything we never got the chance to own
Sell your soul banker man
but you won't ever rob me of mine,
sell your soul banker man
now I know there's some things worse than dying...
My home town ain't no home,
it ain't no town
my home town is out on loan
every inch of solid ground
Sell your soul banker man
don't look back
now don't you ever look around
sell your soul banker man
in for a penny
you might as well be in for a pound
My home town ain't no town,
it ain't no home
banker came and took away everything
we never got the chance to own
sell your soul banker man
take your place in the great downsize
sell your soul banker man
ain't no face not filled with lies
Sell your soul banker man
but you won't ever rob me of mine
sell your soul banker man
wonder how you can sleep at night
sell your soul banker man
but you won't ever rob me of mine
sell your soul banker man
now I know there's some things
worse than dying
Sell your soul banker man
but you won't ever rob me of mine...
My home town ain't no town,
it ain't no home...
Sell your soul
Sell you soul...

Holzgerlingen Gig - Friday, Sept 30
Paul is standing beside his shoes with excitement over his upcoming concert in Holzgerlingen (near Waldenbuch) with Jens Spontan and guests at the StadtCafe.
The gig is on Friday, Sept 30 and starts at 20.00 Uhr. The StadtCafe is in Turmstrasse, Holzgerlingen and bookings can be made by phoning the cafe on 07031/414777. Entry is 6 Euro, and children up to 12 years old get in for free.
Paul Hangs Shit On Sound Man
People close to Paul have revealed that Paul recently told the sound engineer at one of his gigs to "turn the volume up so people can actually hear it, and then just walk away dude... seriously... and turn that hackneyed echo effect off before you go... thanks..."
In Other News...
Paul is currently in talks with booking agents from Spain, Belgium, Holland, Denmark and Germany about possible tourdates in those countries. He still has heard nothing from Greenland, Iceland, Norfolk Island or Alaska.
Paul's contact in India has disappeared without a trace with two free copies of Paul's CDs. "I don't expect to hear anything further from him," says Paul. "I'm pretty sure he was a fraud... but he caught me at a low moment during a gig in St Moritz..."
Paul's contact in Nashville has gone all silent ever since Paul told him the weight of their long-distance relationship was suffocating his creativity.
Amsterdam FM Radio Spot/Jet Lounge Gig/ House Concert Festival
Paul played four of his songs and did an interview on the Amsterdam Songwriter's Guild show on Amsterdam FM on September 1st. He played "World of Pain" just to lighten the mood a little, on acoustic guitar. Then he played "Momma's House" on weissenborn-style lap slide guitar, then he played "Jesus Knows" on the beautiful black baby grand piano, then he finished with "Home" on acoustic guitar and harmonica. Then he trekked on over to the Jet Lounge and played two sets to a small but impressionable crowd of fellow-alcholics and bicycle connoiseurs. Paul reports that the live sound system was awesome and that Mark the owner was generous, friendly and supportive. The Jet Lounge is a place to look out for if you are ever in Amsterdam....
Friday Sept 2 saw Paul play three acoustic sets at the gorgeous rooms of the Tribe Of Noise HQ in Amsterdam as part of the famous "Wilhelmina Oud-West Huiskamer Festival"
"I've now got a soft-spot for Amsterdam," says Paul "and I feel pretty sure that before long, Amsterdam will have a soft-spot for me. In all the right senses of the phrase".
Paul Returns To Calw on August 20!!
Then adds extra exclamation marks to make it seem incredible!!!
"Calphhhhwwwwhh is hard to pronounce... but it's a cool town," says Paul. Paul will play a rare duo concert with Jens Syllwasschy at Cafe Kult in Lederstrasse 46 in Calw on August 20. The show will begin at exactly 8.30pm or a little bit later, or maybe around 9-ish.
Paul predicts future!!
Home Town Concert Does In Fact Bring House Down
Paul expects to be run out of town by angry residents who thought his concert on August 6 was canceled and therefor did not turn up.
"They missed out on a special and miraculous vibe," Paul says.
The gig was officially canceled the day BEFORE it was due to happen on account of organisers' fears that it might rain.
But as Paul says: "Canceled ... schmanceled."
"At the time when the concert was supposed to start I went to the spot it was supposed to be at and I sat down and played guitar and started singing," explains Paul.
"I didn't want anyone who didn't know the concert was canceled to arrive and then turn around and head back home disappointed and/or annoyed...." he says.
Paul sent an SMS to his musician buddy John Tomassi (Californian expat) to come on down and jam and within half an hour a crowd of 50 people had gathered in the stalls of the small amphitheatre next to the town church.
Some light rain threatened early on but one of the crowd, Steve (thanks Steve!!) ran home, fetched his collapsible rain-proof pavillon, and put it up over Paul and John's heads in the middle of a song. The crowd erupted with applause for Steve.
Paul and John kept the unplugged, acoustic entertainment going for two hours before the rain came back again a little harder and Paul announced the gig was over.
The lovely crowd at Waldenbuch, including folks who'd come from Sindelfingen, Boeblingen, Holzgerlingen, Steinenbronn and elsewhere, then purchased loads of copies of Paul's CDs and gave generously as a mark of appreciation for two musicians who still believe in the old addage: "The show must go on!"
Home Town Concert Set To Bring House Down
Paul is thrilled through to his underwear to be playing a romantic, outdoor, acoustic festival in his adopted home town of Waldenbuch (where all the chocolate comes from) on Saturday, August 6th at the big-ass church in the middle of town. Paul will play whatever he feels like, in any key he sees fit. He will play the Weissenborn lap slide guitar, the six string ukulele, the acoustic guitar, harmonicas, stomp box and if anyone brings one along, the piano. Paul will play one long set, then another shorter set later in the night. The concert starts around 7.30 pm and features more than three hours of music from three different bands. Paul is not a band, but he can fake it.
"Sindelfingen Has One Too Many Syllables" - Paul
Paul played a very cool gig at the IGKultur Sommerfest last Saturday night. Not only did it not rain, but the crowd of Sindelfingeringerians were lovely, supportive, demanded two, or possibly three encores, and bought a stack of Paul's CDs. Many thanks to Jens Waschy Syllwasschy for tipping off Pete at IGKultur for the spot. Many thanks also to Pete and everyone at IGKultur, to the lovely ladies of Lande Strasse, and to a dude whom Paul referred to as his manager "Phil" who wouldn't stop requesting "Led Zeppelin... Stairway to Heaven!!" the whole night. Things calmed down once a friend of Phil's came along and began dancing the Lombada with him through to the wee hours... which for Phil is around 10.30pm.
Paul plays gig on Ship... doesn't drown or even get electrocuted
Paul played a laid-back birthday concert on the MS Stuttgart tour boat on the Neckar River last Friday and remained dry and sober the entire time. "I don't drink alcohol," confessed Paul, "and besides, the Neckar River is only seven inches deep. The boats actually run along railway lines that were built into the bottom of the Neckar River in the Ancient Roman Empire days. Everyone knows it."
Autobahn Breakdown.... Gig Cancelled... Sorry Dresden
Paul regrets having to cancel his July 22 concert at the BlueNote Jazz Club and Bar in Dresden (one of his favourites). Paul's car broke down on the autobahn near Nurenburg and there was nothing left to do but hobble back to Stuttgart at 65km per hour in 3rd gear on the backroads (4th and 5th gear were kaput) , hoping against hope that the car would make it back to the mechanic shop before dissentegrating into tiny pieces.
Paul did make it back to Fellbach, eventually, and now awaits an exhorbitant repair bill. Meantime, his wife picked him up from the mechanic shop and drove him and all his music gear that was in the back of the other car, and drove him to a work function next to the Pop Buro in Stuttgart where Paul played all the songs he would have played if he had made to Dresden and the BlueNote.
Unmitigated Success at Deufringen/Aidlingen
Paul was overcome by the generosity, good humour and appreciation of the gorgeous crowd of 350 or so who packed out the courtyard at the Schlosshof Deufringen for the 14th annual "Music On A Sommerabend". "It was the best of times," said Paul.
3rd Holland date announced...
Paul will play four songs live to air on Amsterdam FM radio station ( http://www.amsterdamfm.nl ) on the "Amsterdam Songwriter's Guild program from 3pm til 5pm on September 1, 2011. Paul will not be smoking anything that Bill Clinton wouldn't personally have smoked.
2nd Holland date announced...
Paul will play an extended acoustic set at the famous Jet Lounge in Amsterdam on Thursday Sept 1.
More Berlin Dates?
Paul is likely to play at least one more concert in Berlin on July 7 or July 9, along with the already confirmed July 8 gig at Zimmer 16. Details to come
Coffee Priced According To It's Worth By Sane Italians?
Paul is thrilled to announce he was able to purchase a cup of coffee at Gardasee in Italy for 80 cents last week. "We were stunned," Paul said. "So we bought a second cup of coffee, and it, too, cost only 80 cents. When you think about it," he said, "it's only hot water run over a few coffee beans".
Hot off the Press...
Paul has been unanimously selected to play an acoustic set at a music showcase in Amsterdam on September 2nd.
Details are as follows:
September 2nd - Paul will play an acoustic set at
Wilhelmina Oud-West Huiskamer Festival (House Concert Festival)
"Tribe of Noise" headquarters
Wilhelminastraat 184hs
1054 WT Amsterdam, Netherlands
http://www.tribeofnoise.com/
"Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!" said Paul. Then he went and wrote another song.
Goslar Fundraiser Smash Hit:
Paul had a fantastic time at the Goslar DGEP charity fundraiser in Goslar on June 18.
Highlights included jamming with guitar legend Klaus Weiland on stage and at the after-show party, sitting in on the gorgeous songs and stylings of acoustic blues icon Christoph Deschner and also on the refined and unique songs of John Vaughan - the songwriter's songwriter from the golden era of the legendary Hagelberger Street musician clan in Berlin.
Paul sends his warmest possible greetings and thanks to Conni Buhl and all the team who made the Goslar event so memorable.
Affenhaus Concert Date Change
Due to circumstances beyond his control Paul has moved his concert date at the Affenhaus in Worms to Sept 24th, 2011.
Power Tower gig with Jens
Paul will play a joint concert with talented local favourite Jens Waschy Syllwasschy
at the famous Power Tower in Boeblingen on Sunday afternoon, June 12 from 3pm.

It pains Paul to concede that he had to cancel Thursday night's gig
at Beavers in Miltenberg. He was just plain too sick to hang.
Apologies to Beavers and to the punters who would have bought cds if Paul had actually played.

Hot Off The Press! Gevelsberg Strassenkunstfestival
Paul is STOKED to be invited to play a concert as part of the Boulevard Gevelsberg celebrations
on June 3rd in downtown Gevelsberg.
Paul is playing (he thinks) on the Strassenkunst Stage - Ecke Neustraße (Straßenkunst-Bühne)
at a time yet to be announced.
"I'm pretty sure it'll be in the evening," says Paul. "Cos I don't get out of bed til like 3pm".
Then Paul will be living in a small circus caravan next to the stage
for the weekend and roaming around Gevelsberg committing random acts of singing.
"It's a new thing I've started," he says. "I call it the 'two-day-tail'. You play a gig, then hang around
in the neighbourhood for a couple days with your guitar, waiting for people to pluck up enough
courage to buy a CD. Works a treat."

Duo Concert with Alan Doherty ("Lord of the Rings" soundtrack soloist) - Feb 12 @ Franks Bodega
-
Paul will play a showcase duo concert with Irish woodwind maestro Alan Doherty on Feb 12. The concert will be held at one of the hottest new acoustic venues in the south of Germany at "Franks Bodega" in Grosskarlbach.
Alan and Paul have known each other for a decade and because of their frantic schedules and the 22,000 kilometres that normally separate them they have only played together on a couple of rare occasions. But now they both live in Germany and plan to play many concerts together in the months and years ahead. - Paul will play Weissenbourn-style lap slide guitar, acoustic guitar, ukulele, stomp box, harmonicas and other stuff. Alan will play Irish Flute, Tin Whistle and whatever else he feels like. Enquiries to Frank on 06238 3771 http://franksbodega.de

Paul will break out his lap slide, ukulele, harmonicas, acoustic guitar and stomp box and start up some time after 10pm.
"I'm Gone" impresses major European indie music hub
- Paul's original composition "I'm Gone" was selected as a 'Top Pick' at RegioActive.de (one of the peak new music sites in Germany) last week. This is the fifteenth of Paul's original songs that have won over the Regioactive team and been selected as top picks over the past year.
- Paul's second German tour is coming up in January-February 2011. Paul will play concerts in Mannheim, Schwaebische Gmuend, Solingen, Mayen, Grosskarlbach, Stuttgart, Krefeld, Schwerte and Velbert so far.
- Paul has already played four concerts with his new ukulele (see below) in the last three weeks of December, 2010. This has added a new dimension to Paul's concerts which already feature acoustic guitars, lap slide guitar, harmonica, stomp box, foot percussion and piano.
- Paul's first ever duo concert in the nothern hemisphere happens on February 12th, 2011, with acclaimed Irish whistle player Alan Doherty of "Lord Of The Rings" soundtrack fame. - Paul is also now playing the ukulele. He got a six-string ukulele from his wife for his birthday and has already recorded a demo of "Winds of Fortune" accompanying himself only on ukulele. You can find the song here: http://www.reverbnation.com/paulfogarty and also here: http://www.myspace.com/paulfogartysongs
- Paul is also standing beside his shoes (that's a German saying, it means is excited) about playing a concert with Alan Doherty (Irish whistle player from Grada, and the Lord of the Rings movie soundtrack) in 2011. Cafe Exlibris Concert Sold Out
- Message from Paul: "Cheers and love and all best wishes to everyone who was at Cafe Exlibris in Schwaebisch Gmuend last night, Saturday November 13. It was so beautiful to have a sold out show, to have folks coming in to stand up down the back the whole show, and to share such a gorgeous vibe with so many smiling faces"
- Thanks to everyone who grabbed a copy of Paul's CDs. Happy listening. It helps to keep Paul off the streets, which is in the best interests of everyone.
- Special thanks to everyone who laughed politely at all of Paul's jokes, even though none of them was funny. Like, I mean, none of them.... at all. We here in Head Office are trying to pursuade Paul to stop telling stories between songs, especially since he just makes them up on the spot, but he is Australian and therefore unable to follow the advice of anyone in authority. It's in the DNA...
- Cheers also to the Irish Castle pub in Nuernberg for a great gig on Friday night. HUGE THANKS to Andre and Steffi who drove all the way from Wuerzburg to catch the gig.
TOP SECRET TOP SECRET
SSSHHHHH TOP SECRET TOP SECRET....
SECRET MUSICIAN STUFF....
Paul has also decided to make life a living hell for other musicians in and around Stuttgart this week.
- Paul is planning to go and annoy Singer-Songwriter Mathew James White at his concert in Cafe Stella, Stuttgart on Thursday, November 18, 2010.
"I'm looking forward to it," says Paul. "I'm gonna hang around, unplug all Mathew's sound gear, untune his guitar, and paint pepper spray all over his microphone. If that all goes well I will then also have his car towed away to Poland."
- Paul's also going to be in attendance at a concert by The Wishing Well band from Australia at Cafe Galao in Stuttgart on Saturday, November 20.
"I'm going to blame Mathew James White's car towing on The Wishing Well band. Mathew will naturally retaliate by raining eggs upon The Wishing Well band members as they enter the premises at Cafe Galao and shouting unflattering epithets while they do sound check."
"It will be a blast," says Paul.
"Just like the old days. Every one in Australia is always sabotaging, setting fire to, raining eggs on, or stealing the cars/wives/girlfriends and pets of other musicians. It's a non-stop hoot, and I'm hoping to introduce it to Germany."
Schwaebische Gmuend Concert...
- Paul's solo concert at Cafe Exlibris is shaping up to be another great night of original acoustic music. Organisers are expecting a full house on Saturday night (Nov. 13) and Paul is beside himself with anticipation and has a whole boat-load of new and reworked songs to showcase on the night.
- Last weekend Paul played to two capacity crowds in Lucklum (Wegwarte, with Ulf Hartmann and Benjamin Kaiser) and in Waren, north of Berlin (solo show at FloMaLa).
-
Today, Wednesday Nov. 10th, Paul also played to a capacity crowd of 3 - 5 year-olds at his daughter's kindergarten. "I sang Christmas Carols in German, just to make sure no one could understand me at all," said Paul. "No CD sales, but one kid drew on my face with a pencil."
- That's a play on words, see. Die Luke is where I played last night (22nd October 2010) in Ludwigsburg and it kicks heavy-duty ass. It was an ass-kicking gig at an ass-kicking venue and the publikum were like a coterie of gorgeous and animated dolls from some other planet, formed into a semi-circle and glued together by the size of their large and loving eyeballs. Thanks Die Luke. It was awesome to be there. It was awesome to play and sing and to feel the love. Love that love, people. Love that love.
Brief Creative Pause:
- A doctor has ordered Paul to take a break, kick back, fly to Mallorca with his family, and get some sunshine.
- It wasn't Paul's doctor who gave him the advice, it was just some doctor he met at a bar. But Paul always listens to the well-considered advice of members of the medical profession. Paul's creative pause will run from September 23 til September 30.

- STOA gig cancelled. With much regret and gnashing of teeth Paul had to cancel his gig at STOA in Munich on account of how he is sick with the 'flu and can neither sing, hear, see, feel, strum, flex, spit, sit, stand or rock. He can cough, but that's about it.
- The 2010 edition of the STRAMU Street Music Festival is over, but what a weekend it was. Paul played (he thinks) four or five sets on Saturday, and three-and-a-half sets on Sunday at the humble Galeriehof Stage at STRAMU. "The whole vibe of STRAMU is an amazing experience and it's fantastic to be able to be a part of it," said Paul. "As festivals go, STRAMU kicks serious ass." (that means it's a killer festival) (and that means it's fantastic)
- Paul also played the final set on the Gala Stage at the central hub of the Festival, the Marktplatz, and recieved an amazing reception - including shrieking teenagers - that brought the festival to a glorious and heart-warming close.
"Sorry, Songwriter Guy"
- Paul apologises to the songwriter dude from Wuerzburg who told Paul he was going to be playing a few songs at Immehin club on Saturday night and who invited Paul to come along and play. Paul would have arrived and played but he couldn't find the place. He walked and walked and asked and asked and walked some more, about an hour or so, and still couldn't find the place behind the BR Building. "I got dizzy and confused and I needed to lie down some place on an adrenaline drip," says Paul. " So I went back to my cell, and fell asleep til some time Sunday."
- Paul also apologises if any of his comments about incessant and monotonous drumming offended any actual drummers, pyromaniacs, or people suffering post traumatic stress disorder.
News!!!
- Another of Paul's songs "The First Hello" has been featured at www.regioactive.de ... that's the 13th song of Paul's that has been featured.
- Paul is returning to play at the fabulous FloMaLa at Waren, north of Berlin on November 6th.
- Paul is playing four concerts at his daughter's kindergarten in November... all that cordial and cookies.
- Paul's dog BarnBoy is recovering from his swimming injury and knee operation. This is in spite of Paul's whacking BarnBoy on the sore leg with a stick every morning when he wakes up
- Paul is learning the Ukulele. WTF?
- Paul's wife and daughter still forbid him from teaching himself the saxophone. "It's a work in progress," Paul says.
- Rumours are afoot that Paul will be recording a new album this year. EEEEKKKK!!!
- Paul will soon be publishing a "Shame File" listing all those venues, record labels, and publishers who have neither returned his calls, answered his emails, or done any of the things they said they would do... it's a long list. This list may or may not also include the names of car mechanics and even normal citizens who have annoyed Paul in some way...
Even More News
Successes!!- Paul played the Erlenbach Strassen Musik Festival last Sunday, August 22, and won the overall first prize among the competing music acts from all over Germany. The competition was judged for originality, technique/skill, and some other thing that Paul has no clue about but believes it could be "height" (Paul is 6 feet 4 inches - Ed.)
- Big hi's and congratulations to all the other acts that took part and huge thanks to Robbi and the organisers and sponsors and Kultuhrpur in Erlenbach.
- Paul also played at The Sound Of The Forest Festival near Marbach on Friday, August 20 and had a ball. "It was a very cool festival and the audiences were generous and wild and very attractive," says Paul.
Netherlands Shows
- Paul is set to play at least one show in Holland over the winter. Details are yet to be confirmed
Songs Released Into The WWWilds: Paul is able now to write a brand new song, record it, mix it, and make it available for sale as an MP3 on the WWW all on the same day.
- Paul has begun selling his own home recordings of his songs on his page at www.reverbnation.com/paulfogarty This means he is able to write, record, mix, upload and sell his own songs to any place on earth (with internet connectivity) from his own modest studio any time he likes.
- Paul has added five new songs to his available mp3 catalogue at Reverbnation (see above) The songs are: I've Already Said Goodbye, Good Idea At The Time, So Afraid To Fly, and two lap-slide songs - Momma's House and Teardrop In My Heart
September Gigs
- Paul has gig's coming up in September in Nuernburg, Munich, and Wuerzburg.
Festival News
- Sound Of The Forest Festival have invited Paul to play a 40 minute set at the festival on Friday, August 20th instead of the formerly scheduled 30 minute set on Sat, Aug 21.
- Paul had a wonderful time at the Festival der Strassenkunstler in Haslach in July - Haslach turned out to be close to Frieburg, not Karlsruhe. Paul got lost, with the help of his car Sat-Nav system, but still arrived in beautiful downtown Haslach with plenty of time to park illegally, order the wrong food, drive in a forbidden zone, and misunderstand almost everything everyone said to him. "It was a wonderful day, full of uncertainty , sausage, and foreign languages," Paul said.
Paul reports he sold a bucket-load of CDs, made some new friends and fans, then drove home with the contact details of a street juggler in his back pocket.
Regioactive
Just a quick mention that one of Germany's top music/musician websites selects songs every week from among it's almost 15,000 bands/musicians as "top picks".
Already this year nine of Paul's songs have been selected top picks and just this week he notched up his 10th and 11th top pick songs as well. So thanks to everyone at Regioactive!

His show is on the afternoon of Friday, August 20 at 4.00pm
Then Paul plays the same weekend August 22nd, at the Street Music Festival in Erlenbach

Not Quite Tour Dates
Paul has turned down the chance to play some gigs in Belgium, Prague and Luxembourg in July due to factors beyond his control, but hopes to get across there as soon as it's feasible.
